6 Ways To Make Your Beauty Routine More Sustainable This Earth Month

If like us, you’re trying to lead a more environmentally friendly life, one area you can definitely improve is is your beauty routine. As a standard, the beauty industry is packed with single-use plastics, excess packaging, harsh chemicals and toxic ingredients, all of which are harmful to you and the planet.

However, there are a few easy ways that you can make a sustainable and environmentally friendly difference in your makeup and beauty regime. Here are a few of our favourite tips…

6 Ways To Make Your Beauty Routine More Sustainable This Earth Month

    1. Switch to Reusable Makeup Wipes

Face wipes may seem like a quick and easy way to remove your makeup, but they aren’t doing your skin – or the environment, any good. Not only do makeup wipes strip the skin of its natural oils and imbalance PH levels, but they’re also non-biodegradable and end up in landfills.

We recommend switching to reusable makeup wipes – in particular microfiber makeup wipes. They are well suited to the task for a number of different reasons:

    • They are soft. This almost goes without saying, but you don’t want to scrub just any old cloth over your sensitive facial skin!
    • They are thorough. Another benefit of those tiny microfibers is that they can reach into all the nooks and crannies in your skin for a more thorough cleansing.
    • They are “magnetic.” All those fibers act like magnets, grabbing onto makeup particles and locking them away rather than pushing them around on your skin.

    2. Re-use What You Can

An example of cleverly re-using makeup products would be a mascara wand. When your mascara has run out, or become too thick to use don’t throw away the mascara wand. A mascara wand is actually a really useful beauty tool, just make sure you gently wash off all the excess mascara with warm soapy water and turn it into an eyebrow brush! It is a great tool for shaping your eyebrows and it can be used to tame stray hairs by spraying with a little hairspray and combing through the stragglers.

    sustainable beauty

    3. Use a Metal Safety Razor

The biggest environmental issue with disposable razors is that they are not recyclable. According to the EPA, 2 billion disposable razors end up in land fills every year. A metal safety razor is recyclable, which can drastically reduce the negative environmental impact. And the razor itself can last a lifetime. Shaving with a safety razor also reduces skin irritation, shave bumps, and ingrown hairs that are common with cartridge or electric razors. The main reason is that with a safety razor you only have one blade against your skin at any time.

    4. Don’t leave the water running!

Your morning time beauty routine is always a good time to conserve water. One good way to do this is to stick to cold water. Waiting for the water to get hot just wastes it. If you want to take the lazy way out, skip cleansing. You most likely did a thorough skincare routine before bed so just splash some cool water on your face to get you up and moving. Follow through with toner and moisturizer and you are good to go. Don’t forget to shut off the water while you brush your teeth as well, or just brush them in the shower – two birds, one stone.

    sustainable beauty

    5. Use up what you already have

One of the first steps to making your beauty routine more eco-friendly is to use up anything you have before you buy a replacement. If there’s something you can’t make use of, think of ways to give it a second life. For example, if something isn’t your color or isn’t working for you, consider selling it on Poshmark, giving it away for free online or to a friend who loves to experiment with new-to-them products.

    6. Reduce consumption wherever possible

The single best thing anyone can do is to use what you have before you buy anything else, eco-friendly item or not. Another fruitful way to consume consciously is to opt for double-duty products, like a blush that you can also use on your lips, or a powder contour you can also use as eyeshadow. Be creative with your makeup, you might be surprised at the results!

We recommend trying out our powder contour palette for great contour and eyeshadow looks!

  • Black History Month: 6 Trailblazers Who Changed The Beauty Industry

Black History Month: 6 Trailblazers Who Changed The Beauty Industry

Women of color have a standout, multi-dimensional beauty that is all their own. However, it has not always been acknowledged in the mainstream. But thanks to a select group of melanin-poppin’ ladies who broke through the mirrored glass ceiling, the beauty industry has made giant strides in celebrating the diversity of beauty in all of its various hues, textures and forms. By challenging the status quo, these trail-blazing dames went on to change the game and emboldened others to do the same.

To celebrate Black History Month, we take a look at the magnificent milestones of these groundbreaking women who broadcasted ‘Black is Beautiful’ on their own terms and redefined the way beauty is perceived on the whole. Let these boss queens be your endless source of inspiration.

Black History Month: 6 Trailblazers Who Changed The Beauty Industry

    black history month

    1. Madam C.J. Walker

Widely recognized as the first self-made female millionaire, Madam C.J. Walker, née Sarah Breedlove, developed a line of innovative hair-care and skincare products for African-Americans that bolstered them with hygienic pride. Though she initially started out hawking the products of her financially-savvy mentor Annie Turnbo Malone (who many dispute as the true first Black self-made millionairess), the self-proclaimed hair culturalist and marketing magician broke away by developing her own product range and achieved ultimate success within a dozen years by expanding her product reach from door-to-door, by mail-order catalogue and “hair culture” colleges. In 2016, Sundial Brands, manufacturer of SheaMoisture, reintroduced her culturally-rich legacy to the millennial set by rolling it out to a multitude of Sephora doors.

    2. Vanessa Williams

The award-winning actress and recording artist loosened the color lines when she was the first African-American to be crowned Miss America in the pageant’s history. Several months later, the former beauty queen abdicated her title amidst a Penthouse nude photo scandal.

In 1988, she released her debut studio album The Right Stuff, whose title single saw moderate success before “Dreamin’” peaked at number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in the United States in 1989.

As an actress, Williams enjoyed success on both stage and screen, receiving an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture for her portrayal of Teri Joseph in the film Soul Food. Her best-known television roles are that of Wilhelmina Slater on Ugly Betty, for which she was nominated three times for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.

    3. Tracey Norman

The gorgeous Tracey Norman was the first Black trans model to achieve prominence in the modeling industry. Throughout the 1970s, Norman graced the pages of countless top publications, including Vogue Italia, Essence and Harper’s Baazar. Norman also landed a major commercial campaign as the face of Clairol’s popular “Born Beautiful” shade No. 152. The brand brought this barrier-breaking fashion icon back as the face of their “Nice ‘n Easy Color As Real As You Are” line in 2016.

    4. Grace Jones

Grace Jones has been many things during her years in the spotlight: dancehall queen, artistic muse, style icon, rebel, villainous Bond girl/henchwoman. She got her start on the runways in the 1970s, but soon Jones was on the cover of magazines, topping the U.S. dance charts with disco and R&B hits like “Pull Up to the Bumper” and “Slave to the Rhythm,” and befriending and influencing major players in the art and fashion worlds. And though she once made headlines for her onstage antics and drug-fueled partying, her enduring legacy has been her commitment to individuality, her fierce personality, and her defiance of social mores.

    5. Trina Parks

Actress Trina Parks made history as the first Black actress to star as a Bond girl, portraying the villainous Thumper. This had a significant impact on the future of Bond girl castings and Black women starring in Bond films, leading up to the upcoming No Time to Die, which features its first Black female 007.

    6. Lisa Price

Founded out of her Brooklyn kitchen, the beauty entrepreneur’s top-of-the-line multicultural brand, Carol’s Daughter, disrupted the haircare market by being the first to serve the needs of those within the natural hair community. The unparalleled success of her enterprise caught the attention of L’Oréal, which acquired the brand about a decade later, and inspired other independent beauty impressarios, such as Nancy Twine of Briogeo and Mahisha Dellinger of CURLS to follow in her footsteps and try to revolutionize the textured hair-care industry.

  • 8 Beauty & Fashion Trends That Will Dominate 2020

8 Beauty & Fashion Trends That Will Dominate 2020

2020 Beauty: 8 Trends That Will Dominate This Year & Beyond

Before we start discussing 2020 beauty, it’s important for us to take stock and look back over the last ten years. It’s fair to say that between fashion and beauty – we’ve seen it all. Take our hair for example, within the last decade we’ve had side bangs, poufs, lots and lots of layers, a-symmetrical bobs… the list goes on. So many crazy trends and fads have come and gone; contouring, the unicorn, multi-coloured everything phase and all the weird and wonderful things that have happened to our eyebrows over the last five years or so.

We’ve also seen some real progress with how society views beauty. Albeit, it isn’t perfect, but over the last decade, we’ve seen some major strides toward inclusive beauty, advertising actually showing real women and little imperfections and individuality being showcased and rewarded. We saw curls in all their glory. Skin that wasn’t airbrushed. And made our views as consumers perfectly clear through our thoughts about it on social media.

Who knows what we will see change over the next ten years. We are sure there will be many ‘hits’ and A LOT of ‘misses’ and no doubt we will look back in twenty years at photographs and say to ourselves “What was I thinking?!?” However, we are super excited to see where the beauty industry takes us and have put together a list of what we think will be trending over the next few months as we slide into the new roarings ’20s! 2020 beauty here we come…

    2020 BEAUTY: FEATHERED, FLUFFY BROWS

Say goodbye to the days of drawing (or in some cases tattooing) on fine, delicate brows. This year it’s time to embrace the lived-in, full brow look. “Brows are starting to look more like brows and less like cartoons…” FINALLY! We are embracing pens and gels and creating masterpieces that actually look like real brows!

Top Tip: You should prep your eyebrows with a growth serum each night before going to bed. The more you have to work with, the better your brows will look in the end!

    GEMSTONE EYES AND CRYSTAL NAILS

Inventive takes on eyeliner and rhinestones—lots of rhinestones—were all over the spring 2020 runways. Models at Pyer Moss had ruby red crystals all over their lids and around their eyes, while Pat McGrath created brightly colored eye looks with decals at Marc Jacobs. Off the catwalk expect to see more subtle variations hitting the streets. Ease your way into this trend with stick-on rhinestones on the inner corners of your eyes and then start exploring and experimenting from there.

Did you know that searches for “Swarovski crystal nails” are up 128% on Pinterest? It’s not hard to see why. Who wouldn’t want to look down and see their nails sparkling in the light? There’s the option of going to a salon to have them delicately place crystals in a line along your cuticles or tips, but you can also go the DIY route with a chunky glitter polish and purchasing your own crystals and glue online!

    BARRETTES AND HAIR CLIPS

If you didn’t get in the hair-clip game in 2019, good news: Now’s your chance. Pinterest reports searches for hair clips are up 930% going into the New Year. While teens are leaning toward wing and butterfly clips (yep, it’s officially happening AGAIN), those of us who actually remember wearing them the first time are gravitating towards more sophisticated options, like pearl clips, adorned bobby pins, and gold claw clips. 90s revival is in full swing beauties – you in or not?

    PASTEL EYESHADOW AND FLOATING EYELINER

Worn all over your lids or just as a flick of liner, pretty pastel shades are set to have their time to shine this spring. Models at Oscar de la Renta, Alice + Olivia, Ulla Johnson, and Jonathan Simkhai all hit the catwalk wearing dreamy mints, peaches, powder blues, lilacs, and lemons. Get ahead of the curve try out our Diamond Eyeshadow and Glitter Eyeshadow palettes. With many colours to choose from, you can combine the pastels with the sparkles this season.

To match your pastel shadows we are also expecting see lots of lots of floating liner…in bright colors. Say goodbye to traditional, black eyeliner (for a while at least). To create the perfect floating eyeliner look:

    Step One: Prime your lids

Step Two: Blend the second lightest shade in your eye shadow palette across your entire lid, extending just beyond your crease. Then, dust some of the lightest color onto the center of your lid to help make your eyes really pop.

Step Three: Close your eyes to determine where your real crease is. Then, using the eyeliner color of your choice (if you opted for a neutral floating crease, reach for brown; if you opted for a bold floating crease, use cobalt blue), draw an arc just beyond your natural crease.

    KNOTTED HEADBANDS AND SCRUNCHIES

If 2019 was the year of the padded headband, 2020 will be all about knotted ones. Not only were they all over the runways (like here at the Alice + Olivia spring show), but you also couldn’t walk two steps without seeing someone wearing Lele Sadoughi in the crowd. Our favorite places to shop for them? Shopbop and Urban Outfitters have a ton of fun styles, but don’t sleep on Etsy, where you can find interesting (and affordable) designs no one else will have.

Pinterest revealed a whopping 6309% surge in searches for the term “hair scrunchies” in its recent Pinterest 100 report, which means, despite not really paying scrunchies much attention since they were our favourite primary school accessory, they’re back in a big way for 2020.

As for how to style them, sling them round a low ponytail or bun, keeping the style loose and relaxed and – yep – it appears our long-forgotten scrunchie has grown-up with us.

  • Everyday Makeup: Do’s and Don’ts

    Everyday Makeup: Do’s and Don’ts

    Everyday Makeup: Do’s and Don’ts

Everyday makeup is all about sticking to the “less is more” motto. You want to know how to strike the perfect balance between looking put-together and not having spent hours in front of the mirror experimenting.

Our advice is to stick with products that match and enhance your natural features, rather than trying to change things. If your eyelids are naturally tinted light pink, for example, find a similar shade of eye shadow. If your lips are already berry toned, a raspberry lipstick is perfect.

To help you out, we’ve compiled a few dos and don’ts to help you determine which products to focus on for daily use, and which to save for glamorous nights on with the girls.

    Do Use A Light Foundation

Make sure when you are applying your foundation that it is no more than one shade darker than you natural skin tone. Save the darker shades for a night time/evening look. Day-to-day you want to appear as natural as possible. Wearing foundation, but appearing as if you aren’t wearing any at all.

Keep in mind your choice of concealer for everyday makeup as well. Stick to a concealer that’s just two shades lighter than your natural skin color so that you don’t draw further attention to, for example the tired area under your eyes.

Do Use Blush On Your Cheeks

The ever popular contouring trend has unfortunately led us down a path where we think we need to have sharply contrasted cheekbones ALL THE TIME. This is not the case. Contouring for everyday makeup can become tiresome and caked (depending on your activities throughout the day). It is hard to maintain throughout a busy work day schedule.

No matter the time of year, you should absolutely consider blush a daily beauty essential. Blush has the ability to make your skin look instantly radiant, healthy, and glowing. It’s also one of the least fussy products to apply, either with a stick or a fluffy powder brush.

Side Note: DON’T smile as you apply blush to the apples of cheeks. Doing this raises them, so when you stop smiling and cheeks return to their normal position, the blush color ends up being lower on the face and closer to the mouth. Not good.

We recommend trying out our Lavish blush palette, which you can purchase here. A 10 colour blush palette that lets can create a custom shade that’s perfect for you.

    Do Find A Nude Eyeshadow

Most of us are pressed for time while getting ready in the morning, so why bother applying a smokey-eye? This extreme look is great for formal occasions, but will make you look seriously overdone when worn to the office.

So instead, we recommend, when applying your everyday makeup, using soft, neutral eye shadow colors. Taupe, nude cream, or even a subtle coral will help give you a natural looking glow.

DO add a dab of a lighter and softly light-reflective shade to the center of your eyelid for a bright-eyed look. Use a small, flat eyeshadow brush, knock off the excess shadow, and lightly press/dab it in the middle of the eyelid.

Need a neutral eyeshadow palette? We’ve got you covered with our multi-use palette, containing 25 neutral shades to define, line, and highlight eyes and brows. Find it here.

    Don’t Wear Heavy, Voluminous Lashes

If you haven’t got lash extensions, you may feel you need to wear heavy voluminous lashes during the day. Don’t. It’s going overboard. Your eyes might feel naked, but wearing false lashes all the time might effect your natural eyelash growth and damage your waterline. We recommend saving falsies for night looks and just using a touch of mascara to darken and lengthen you natural lashes.

If you truly feel insecure without them for your everyday, we have a line of natural lashes that we give you length and an extra va va voom. You can find them here.

Do Wear Light Shades of Lipstick

For the perfect nude, everyday lipstick we recommend using a lipstick that is one shade lighter or darker than your natural lip color for the perfect nude lipstick.

DON’T use dark-hued lipsticks on thin lips. Well, dark lips should definitely be reserved for night time looks anyway, but if you must during the day, use a brighter shade rather than a dark one.

Top Tip: Apply concealer to the outer corners of your lips to give your lips a lift, and then apply concealer or highlighter around the edge of the lower lip to give yourself a pouty lip.

Find your perfect shade of nude, bright, dark or bold lipstick from our line of matte liquid lipsticks here.

  • Save Your Skin This Winter!

    Save Your Skin This Winter!

    Save Your Skin This Winter

Dry hands, irritated skin, chapped lips—those are just a few of the telltale signs that indicate winter has arrived. Winter can be a disaster for your skin — making it dry, itchy, and irritated. Cold conditions outside can leave your skin feeling raw, while the heat from indoors can easily remove moisture from the air and therefore from your skin.

Being proactive and updating your skin care regime to suit the season, can really help you battle the Wintery elements. We have put together a list of Winter skin care tips that we guarantee will keep you skin healthy, happy and glowing!

    Look For Signs of Dryness

    winter

Make sure you are checking for signs of dry skin daily. You will notice things like your foundation patching, where it normally doesn’t or chapped lips becoming a daily (and very annoying) occurrence.

These small giveaways are signs of dryness in your skin that can be caused by the colder weather. When you start to notice these changes, it might be time to work in a new routine to you winter skincare regime.

Limit Time Spent (and Temperature) in the Shower

    winter skincare

Taking long, steamy, hot showers may be very tempting during the Winter month, but your skin will be much better-served with a 5- to 10-minute lukewarm shower (or bath).

You should also avoid using excessively hot water when washing your hands and face, rule of thumb, if your skin turns red, the water is too hot. Washing your hands in cooler water appears to be as effective at removing germs as warm water and is less irritating to skin, so be mindful this season.

    Apply Sunscreen (That’s right, Suncreen!)

    winter skincare

Even though it’s December and you may not see the sun that much throughout the festive season, on bright winter days, snow reflects the sun’s rays — up to 80 percent, according to the Skin Cancer Foundation — increasing your risk of exposure.

That means whether you’re out on the slopes, playing in the snow, or just out shopping, make sure to apply some suncreen as it’s just as important in the harsh winter weather as it is in the Summer sun.

Also, don’t be fooled by the dark, dismal, dreary days packed full of clouds. UV light can penetrate even the darkest day, so make sure you apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher to all exposed areas of your body.

    Stay Hydrated

    winter skincare

You should be paying extra attention to staying hydrated throughout the Winter months. Even though temperatures are much colder, the winter also brings much drier air, which can unexpectedly lead to dehydration. This in turn can cause your body to feel sluggish and run-down, with muscle fatigue and dry skin sometimes being a side effect.

The colder weather of winter is often used as an excuse to exercise less and eat more. This can lead to weight gain, which can be further exacerbated by not drinking enough fluids.

    Exfoliate, Exfoliate, Exfoliate

    winter

Even though you are trying to keep as much moisture into you skin as possible throughout the winter months, you need to add exfoliation to your winter skincare regime. As we try to get as much moisture as possible into the skin, we need to clear a path for those products to penetrate.

If you have too many dead skin cells, that path is blocked and your skin remains dehydrated. Using oil and moisturizers regularly won’t do you any good if you’re not starting with a primed surface, so remember to exfoliate at least once a week to keep your skin, healthy and glowing.

How To Make Our Top Three Homemade Beauty Treatments

If like us, you have experimented with homemade beauty techniques before then it is very likely you’ve at some point put mayonnaise, egg whites and honey on your face or hair. Are we wrong?

We do it because we trust our friends and family who tell us all the homemade beauty treatments actually work, BUT for a lot of us, it’s about saving money. As it’s November and most of us having started saving up for the holidays, we thought we’d put together a list of our fave tried and tested skin and hair care homemade beauty recipes.

Everyone’s skin is different, so what might work for us, may not work for you. Check out alternative ingredients you can use to suit your skin and hair requirements. Save your money for Christmas gifts, parties, outfits and most importantly makeup(!) by using the recipes below.

How To Make Our Top Three Homemade Beauty Treatments

    HOMEMADE FACE MASK

    beauty treatments

Avocados are one of the best ingredients for any beauty treatment recipe because they are rich in vitamin E, fiber, B vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. They make your skin glow, especially if you also make them a regular part of your diet. When you pair an avocado with oatmeal, you get a great mask that reduces redness, exfoliates and moisturizes dry skin at the same time. We found this wonderful DIY face mask by Fit Foodie Finds and just had to share it.

To make this face mask, mash up 1/2 a ripe avocado into a small bowl and use a fork to mash. Place rolled oats in a blender and grind until coarse. Mix into smashed avocado. Add in honey, lemon juice, coconut oil and your fave essential oil and blend. Use immediately as avocado will turn brown quickly. Leave on face for 15-20 minutes and then rinse!

    HOMEMADE HAIR MASK

Apple cider vinegar is praised for being rich in vitamins and minerals that are good for our hair, such as vitamin C and B. Some also claim it contains alpha-hydroxy acid which helps exfoliate scalp skin, and that it’s anti-inflammatory, which can help with dandruff build up! Argan oil contains vitamin E which will add an extra shine to your hair!

To make this hair mask, in a blender, combine 1/2 avocado, 2 Tbsp argan oil, 10 drops of rosemary essential oil, and 1 Tbsp of apple cider vinegar, and pulse together. Work the mask through dry hair from roots to tips. If you have naturally oily hair avoid your scalp where possible. Let the mask sit for 15 minutes, then rise and shampoo your hair!

    HOMEMADE BODY SCRUB

    beauty treatments

We found this great soothing body scrub recipe from Hello Glow and just had to share it with you. There are many benefits to using coffee on your skin, it fights premature skin aging, soothes inflammation, reduces cellulite and tightens skin! The antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties in green tea also makes it an effective treatment for acne and oily skin.

To make this body scrub, combine the melted coconut oil with the green tea in a small saucepan and simmer over low heat for 30 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool for 20 minutes. Using a strainer, strain the tea leaves from the oil and discard them. Mix the oil with the coffee grounds and ginger. Spoon the mixture into ice cube trays and freeze for 15 minutes or until solid.

    Pretty cool, right?

Spacing on how to dress up for Halloween this year? How about some dangerously glamorous, celestial/galaxy inspired makeup? Both professional and amateur makeup artists have been covering their faces with constellations, galaxies and planets and the results are out-of-this-world beautiful.

The idea is to dust the middle of your face (from your brow bones to your eyes to the bridge of your nose) with purple, blue, and pink eye shadows (try the shimmer-filled try using our bombshell & glitter eyeshadow palettes) to look like space. Then, you draw stars along your cheeks with white liquid eye liner!

You will need Liquid Latex, white face paint, toilet paper, tissues, or paper towels, makeup, acrylic paint, face paint, paint brushes, Q-tips and black thread and a needle. Autumn 2019 Makeup Trends You Will ‘Fall’ In Love With!

    GRAPHIC EYELINER

    autumn makeup trends

We are so thankful that this Fall, makeup is just as much fun as the colourful looks of Summer thanks to dramatic and creative makeup trends like graphic eyeliner. Celebrities like Dove Cameron, Rita Ora, and more have already started wearing the style. While some celebrities have opted for a classic black hue, others are experimenting with bold colours – which we absolutely love.

Finding the right eyeliner is key when creating this bold, sculpted and architectural style and it’s best not to overthink when you are applying as mistakes can happen when you stop and doubt yourself.

If you are experimenting at home for the first time, we recommend extended you usual black eyeliner line, up and towards the arch of the eyebrow! Check out tutorial from youtuber and makeup artist Desi Perkins for a lesson in creating a graphic eye style.

    DEWY LIPS

    lip gloss

A simple makeup trend we’ve known and loved since the ’90s is back! Clear lip gloss created dewy, wet-look lips! Yes, lip gloss, or in other words, the simplest beauty product in the world, is back and in a big way.

This Spring, we saw a trend with dewy skin taking over all the seasons catwalks and runways. Designers and makeup artists internationally have embraced that ‘wet’ look and playing with the glistening texture in forward-thinking ways (think pale, icy shades, vibrant hues paired with matte skin, and matching glossy eyelids) have decided its time to bring back wet look lips!

Beware though, highly pigmented, patent-finish lips popping up on the red carpet don’t come easy – there’s layering and a lot of touch ups involved. BUT on the plus, clear lip gloss looks good on EVERYONE!

    A FLUSH OF LIGHT BLUSH

Many makeup artists would agree that blush is quite an underrated makeup product, but Fall 2019 will see a turn in events with a flush of blush becoming a trend of the season.

Blush is now being brought into the spotlight, and for good reason too! Not only does a blush add some extra color and dimension to the face, but it can also highlight, contour and give you a rosy glow. Perfect for a flushed, seasonal, just-in-from-outside look.

Depending on the look you are trying for, you will want to apply your blusher in different ways on your cheekbones:

    • For a natural look – dab your blush onto the apples of your cheeks
    • For a dramatic look – try draping your blush from your temples down across your cheekbones
    • For a rosy flush – apply your blush just under your eyes, so that it is higher up on your cheeks, and then blend it in well. Cream or gel formulas tend to be best for this look
    • For a sculpted look – blush can be used to contour your face. Simply apply it onto, and above, your cheekbones, in the same areas you would usually place a highlighter

Check out this video tutorial below for more info on how to apply blush and check out our blush palette for various shades of blush suitable for every occasion.

8 Beauty Hacks That Will Change Your Life!

We all LOVE makeup, right? That being said, we aren’t always guaranteed enough time to beautify ourselves before leaving the house. For example, sometimes we have to rush our beauty regime in the morning before work and it is for this reason that we have created this blog featuring our 10 of our favourite beauty hacks, tips and tricks that will help you get ready faster and also make use of makeup that perhaps you thought was ready for the trash can.

    Cat Eyes Using… Tape!

    beauty hacks eyes

Cat eye, eyeliner creates a dramatic, glamorous look that’s both classic and trendy. When you first start doing a cat eye, it’s easy to smudge your eyeliner or to draw uneven lines, but you can master the technique with practice.

If you’re ready to try out a cat eye, you have two options for drawing it on. You can use a makeup brush to help create an easy outline for your cat eye or use TAPE or two plasters as a guide. For cat eyes, liquid eyeliner is vital, but you can try to layer pencil eyeliner if that’s all you have.

Place one piece of tape at an angle upwards below the eye and the second piece on the bottom half of the eyelid, also angled slightly upwards to create a cat eye finish on your look.

Reduce Eye Puffiness Using Green Tea Bags!

    beauty tips

Puffiness and dark circles around the eyes can be caused by lack of sleep, overwork, skin disorders and hypothyroidism. Other causes come from toxins through alcohol and tobacco use. Hormonal changes, skin disorders and allergies affect the delicate skin around the eyes. Despite popular belief, lack of sleep, fatigue and staying out late are not the main causes of dark circles under the eyes.

We recommend placing brewed green tea bags on the eyes for a short time period allows the tannins in the tea to treats puffy eyes and dark circles. Green tea bags reduce swelling and tighten the skin around the eyes. The caffeine reduces puffiness by shrinking the blood vessels. Green tea works on dark circles by decreasing the dilation of the blood vessels under the eyes.

Add Extra Curl To Those Lashes!

    beauty tricks

Sometimes a simple eyelash curler is not enough to create that extra bit of curl for the desired look. However a heated curler can help you achieve a dramatic and long-lasting curl.

Whether you prefer using a regular eyelash curler or using an electric or battery-operated curler, heating these tools is easy and can help produce awesome results!

We recommend three ways to heat your eyelash curlers: using Hot Water, using a Lighter or using a Hair Dryer

No matter which way you decide to heat your curlers, make sure you check the temperature on the back of your hand before applying to you lashes. If the metal is too hot it can cause permanent damage to your lashes. We recommend waiting at least 5 minutes for you curlers to cool down.

    Plump Up Your Pout!

    beauty tips and tricks

Peppermint is a refreshing and stimulating oil that is both soothing and enlightening. This scent is invigorating to the senses that promotes energy and alertness. Peppermint Essential Oil has a cooling effect on the skin that is revitalizing and wonderful to the touch, due to its menthol content. With many amazing uses for this essential oil, Peppermint, is a valuable addition to any oil collection.

You can create a full, fake pout without makeup or surgery just by using Peppermint Essential Oil. The peppermint helps to stimulate the circulation under the lips and creates a “swelling” effect, thus making your lips appear fuller! Add you need to do is grab a Qtip and dab one – two drops of peppermint oil on it and rub across your lips. You can also add the oil to your favorite lip gloss! I practically swear by this stuff!

    Set Your Nails With Ice!

    beauty hacks

There is nothing worse than smudging your new manicure. Luckily, there are a number of tried-and-true methods to dry painted nails quickly. This will help maintain your beautiful nails and often prevent chips and damage.

Our favourite method by far has got to be the ice bath. You can ready your ice bath previous to completing your manicure and set it in the fridge. Once your manicure is complete, dip your fingers into the ice bath (a bowl of water filled with partially melted ice cubes) and keep your fingers spread apart. Leave submerged for 2-3 minutes. Once removed, your nails should have a beautiful uniform finish and will have hardened and dried perfectly!

But next time it happens to you, don’t despair—most kinds of foundation can be removed from fabric with the right cleaning materials and a bit of patience. For oil-free foundation, our favourite beauty hack is to a dab of shaving cream will usually do the trick.

Remove Makeup Stains With Shaving Cream!

    skincare tips

Those tell-tale dimples happen to the best of us; yes, even models and celebs aren’t immune. But with swimsuit season in full swing, you might have banishing cellulite on the brain—or at least reducing its appearance. This is the DIY to do just that, thanks to a couple of secret, lump-combating ingredients.

The first ingredient is caffeine, which tightens and provides antioxidants to the skin when applied topically. When applied religiously, it has been shown to reduce the appearance of cellulite—especially over time. Here, we combine coffee grounds with moisturizing, skin-soothing coconut oil and a bit of sea salt for an extra exfoliating kick – overtime and used often these ingredients will increase blood flow and reduce the appearance of cellulite!

Touch Up Your Roots Using Mascara!

    beauty tips

One of our favourite beauty hacks has got to be hiding roots with mascara! There are hair mascaras on the market, but in a pinch we recommend using a regular eye mascara! Sometimes we just don’t have the time to get to the salon and maybe we have a big party or event coming up! Next time this happens, brush it on until your roots are full disguised, then wash it out in the shower at the end of the day.
