  • 10 Must-Have Makeup Brushes: Everyday Essentials Set

10 Must-Have Makeup Brushes: Everyday Essentials Set

‘Everyday Essentials’ is a 10-piece, vegan and cruelty-free, face and eye makeup brush set with a snazzy soft pink carry case. It provides you with all the essential tools that you need (and more!) to complete your full-face makeup look.

Keep reading for a peek at the different brushes available in this set!

    1. Powder Makeup Brush

A powder brush is generally a thick, full-fibered brush—either synthetic or natural—that has the versatility to perform a multitude of beauty jobs. This omnipresent makeup brush (you can hardly find a makeup set without it) is an important tool to have in your makeup arsenal.

To use a powder brush for foundation, dip the brush into the powdered product—applicable for both pressed and loose powders—and swirl in circles or sweeping strokes until you achieve even coverage. Pro tip: it’s easier to ensure adequate application if you start in the middle of your face and work your way out.

    2. Blending Brush

This multipurpose brush gives face and cheek powders a soft, airbrushed look. It blends face powders, bronzers, and blushes seamlessly onto skin for a natural-looking finish. It also delivers a smooth finish when applying cheek and face powders and glides highlight and glow powders on skin evenly for a natural look.

    3. Contour Brush

Contouring is a makeup application skill every beauty lover should know, but one that takes practice to perfect. Worst-case scenario when you’re attempting a good contour? Dark, unblended streaks. But we’ve got your back so you’ll never leave the house a two-toned nightmare. This is why it is important to use an angled brushe rather than flat brushes because they allow you to follow the natural curves of your face.

    4. Flat Foundation Brush

A flat top foundation brush for applying liquid makeup will make application quicker, easier, and give you airbrushed-look, flawless, results. The flat top makeup brush can (and should) also be used when applying sheer powders and blushes too.

Take your favourite foundation and dab a small amount the size of a small coin on the back of your non-dominant hand. Dip your brush into the foundation. A perfect flat top foundation brush is soft bristled, densely packed, synthetic, and antibacterial.

    5. Blusher Brush

A blush brush is surprisingly similar to a powdered brush. Brushes for blush are generally a little stubbier, however, as they are covering a smaller area than a powder brush. When applying blush, try to avoid Raggedy-Ann-reminiscent red circles on your cheeks.

To avoid the doll look, diffuse blush outward while applying to the apples of your cheeks. Start with light pressure and test out the pigmentation on your wrist or the back of your hand. It’s much easier to build color than it is to wipe it away after it’s already been applied.

    6. Concealer Brush

A concealer brush is a small makeup brush meant for applying and blending out liquid, cream, and powder concealer formulas. Typically, a concealer brush features a small brush head with densely packed bristles and a flat, tapered shape at the end. Complete with a long handle, this beauty tool gives you maximum control making it super easy to provide desired areas of your face with even coverage. Its small shape also allows you to reach every inch of your skin so you can place the product right where you need it.

    7.  Fluffy Blending Brush

To create a natural gradient of colors, use fluffy blender eye makeup brush. After shadow and eye liner application, use this eye makeup brush to give a natural finish as it expertly blends the colors. This is a great pick for creating smokey eye and dramatic look. You get tapered or rounded fluffy brush for blending. The fluffy eye makeup brush can be used for blending with or without product.

    8. Flat Eyeshadow Brush

A flat eyeshadow brush is actually key for getting an opaque, even layer of color on your lids. These brushes are typically flat, rounded at the tip, and dense so they can pick up a bunch of powder or cream for a concentrated color payoff.

    Shop Here

    9. Crease Brush

Unlike a shader brush, which essentially packs on the pigments to get your lids a ton of color, an eyeshadow blending brush, well, blends out the powders for a really sheer, diffused finish—basically the smoke behind a smokey eye or the trick to a natural-looking shadow. These brushes are known for their tapered shape and soft, fluffy bristles to help you really blend, blend, and blend without scratching the hell out of your lids.

After rubbing the brush over the product, pat or press the eyeshadow onto your eyelids, gently swirling the brush around the edges to blend them out for the most coverage.

    10. Detail Brush

For the precise placement and blending of powder or cream products we recommend using a detail eyeshadow brush. Fantastic when used damp with eyeshadow for a more concentrated application of pigment. Also great for adding a detailed highlight under the brow or inner corners of the eye, or a shadow along the lash line.

  • The 5 Fall 2022 Makeup Trends We Are Most Excited About

The 5 Fall 2022 Makeup Trends We Are Most Excited About

Dust off your favorite seasonal fall candles and unbox your on-trend platform loafers, because the first signs of summer’s anticipated end have finally arrived — that means cooler air, shorter days, toasted color palettes, the return of pumpkin spiced everything.

And just as fashion and nail trends begin to shift for the new season, so do the makeup looks, which means, of course, we has tapped our five top makeup looks for the season from the professionals in the industry.

Black Graphic Liner With Bright Accents

Want to make a major statement? Celebrity makeup artist Jamie Greenberg recommends taking a cue from the Anna Sui Fall 2022 show and jumping on the graphic liner bandwagon. It feels super modern, even a little futuristic, and fresh for fall. With a great liquid liner and a little practice (and a stash of Q-tips), this high-fashion look isn’t actually as difficult to pull off as you might expect.

Velasquez’s Instagram feed is already flooded with black graphic liner looks accented with bright pops of color on his celebrity clients. But you’re about to see a lot more. He names this fall makeup look his favorite. Try it yourself by highlighting the sharpness of your black liner with neon hues.

    “Lived in” Makeup

Yanni Peña, a NYC-based artist who is no stranger to glamming for the runways, says: “I love makeup that tells a story, especially if it’s one where you’re out all night and not home until the morning. This trend embraces your natural eyelid color and texture; glossy/oily lids, burst of fresh color, second skin qualities; diffused and melted, perfectly imperfect — your makeup is supposed to look a little smudgy, but not messy.”

Smudged liner is another great trend, giving a super worn-in look. It’s great because it doesn’t have to be precisely applied to achieve the desired effect.

    Blue Eye Makeup Is Back!

Yup, blue eye shadow is still having its 2022 renaissance deep into fall. It was one of the more prominent beauty trends at New York Fashion Week back in February 2022, cutting through the usual minimal makeup looks that are usually expected for the city. Most notably, it showed up as a bold, matte powder blue shadow paired with a classic wing at Christian Siriano.

However, the retro hue is expanding beyond the usual baby blue. All tones of blue will be accounted for. Lately, we’ve been seeing celebrities wear this look everywhere. Blue eyeshadow will either frame the eye or will feature just as a wash and blended out in a winged shape or graphic box painterly placed on the eyes.

    The Euphoria Legacy Continues

According to a study by Cult Beauty, products such as body glitter, metallic makeup and makeup embellishments were some of the top-searched-for trends of 2022. That’s right—everything you wore to your school disco is back, no doubt influenced by the incredible eye makeup looks in Euphoria and the rise of the “night luxe” aesthetic on TikTok. This time, we’re passing on the body glitter and opting for shimmering eye shadows in glittering shades that almost have a translucent effect perfect for party season.

“As the Euphoria theme carries on, there are splashes of frosty shades, a play with metallic accents with block silver or colour foil,” says makeup artist and founder of Studio One Makeup Lan Nguyen-Grealis. “Think shimmering highlights and adornment jewels around the eye with clean skin.”

    Bleached Eyebrows

From a makeup perspective, bleached eyebrows, whether done with concealers or the entire bleach process, are a great way to open up the area around the eyes, which allows for much more freedom in terms of makeup possibilities. In addition, there’s no ‘frame’ to consider, so you can do any brow shape in any size you want and create something artistic, from drawing on entirely new eyebrows (Y2K vibes) to extending the form of a graphic eye design to extreme effect. Even celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Julia Fox, and Lady Gaga have bleached their brows recently. So, if bleached brows sound like the trend for you, we say go for it!

  • How to Apply, Remove, and Clean your Fake Lashes

How to Apply, Remove, and Clean your Fake Lashes

Eyelashes make our eyes look bigger, more flirtatious and definitely command a lot of attention. Cosmetics are one way of effectively accentuating our lashes but they fall short in comparison to the dramatic effect that wearing a pair of false lashes can offer!

However, false lashes do require proper care and the right application techniques. Below is a few simple steps for guaranteeing that your lashes last long and stay flawless all day and night.

How to Apply, Remove, and Clean your Fake Lashes

    Applying Your False Lashes

There are numerous kinds of lashes available made to cater to different desired looks. Whether you’re looking for something subtle and natural, dramatic and bold, or something fit for dressing up in costume, the right false lashes exist for your needs and may have different application techniques. Don’t be scared – it can take some practice to get right, but practice makes perfect.

    1. Curl your natural lashes

To create a shelf for your falsies to sit on, curl your natural lashes and apply mascara which will help support their weight.

    2. Cut the falsies to fit

Cut your false lashes to perfectly fit your eyelid. You can also divide them up into smaller pieces or thin them out to create a more natural, less chunky look. Another tip is to bend them into a C shape for a few moments to help curve them into a natural eyelid shape.

    3. Add your adhesive

Make sure to use a good quality adhesive, as the kind that sometimes comes with your lashes might not be best. Duo adhesive is a good brand. You’ll want to trace a very fine line on each of the lash bands with the adhesive, not apply it to your eyelids. Wait a few moments for the adhesive to dry and become a bit tacky before applying.

    4. Stick them on!

For better placement and safety, use your fingers to apply your extensions, unless you are more comfortable with tweezers. You’ll want to start by placing the lash from the outer corner first, keeping it as close as possible to the lash line. You can try creating a cat-eye effect by placing the outer extension slightly above your natural lash line.

    5. Touch it up

To help blend everything together, you can take a soft eyeliner brush and press a thin line of black matte eyeshadow onto where your lashes meet your eyes.

    false lashes

    Caring For Your False Lashes

It is recommended that you clean your lash extensions to help keep bacteria away from your eye that could cause redness and agitation. You can also prolong the life of your lashes by cleaning them.

    1. Peel off the glue residue

If you look closely enough, you’ll see the remaining strip of adhesive stuck on the base of your lash extensions. You’ll want to peel the remaining off so it’s ready to be re-glued during their next use.

    2. Create a cleaning solution

Fill a small bowl or sink with warm water and a little bit of soap. You can also add liquid makeup remover

    3. Clean the lashes

Submerge your false lashes into your water/cleaning solution and gently rub them to encourage mascara or other makeup to dissolve off of them.

    4. Let them dry

Check the lashes for any remaining residue, and then set them in a clean place to dry. If you’re in a hurry, you can also pat them dry.

  • 5 Habits of People With Great Skin

5 Habits of People With Great Skin

Some people seem to have glowing, gorgeous skin naturally. While genetics can sometimes play a role, it’s more often daily habits that impact the look and feel of your skin. In many cases, people with amazing skin use these five effective habits to maintain their fresh, beautiful look.

    Get a Goodnight’s Sleep

The magic starts with a night of good 8-hour sleep. Our skin has a wonderful quality of recovering and regenerating while we are sleeping. That is why 8-hour sleep is also called “Beauty Sleep.” Give your skin time to recover, and in the morning, it will please you with a glowing look.

    Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate

One of the most basic skincare habits is drinking tons of water. It is mandatory for maintaining healthy and hydrated skin. It will not only satisfy your thirst but it will keep your skin hydrated as well. Researches have proven that drinking plenty of water significantly increases the hydration level of the skin and even dermatology is supporting the skin hydrating effect water has on our body. To get clear skin with no visible pores, and no imperfections is it required to drink an ample amount of water. Water helps to flush all the toxins present in your body.

    Use sunscreen

Attention Women of Color (WOC) in particular, Please don’t listen to people who tell you WOC don’t need to wear SPF. Do a google search and you will find over 70 million results that all will tell you “YES” you do. The sun is what ages you and causes skin hyperpigmentation (brown spots), wrinkles and the most serious is Skin Cancer. Although Skin Cancer is less prevalent in the black community than in the white population, when it does occur it tends to be diagnosed at a later, more advanced stage. Studies show that black people are 4x more likely to be diagnosed with an advance stage of melanoma cancer than white people with similar diagnosis. Always use an SPF of at least 30 and reapply every 90 mins, even on cloudy days you are still being exposed to harmful UVA/UVB rays. I highly recommend checking out www.blackgirlsunscreen.com made by women of color for people of color. It’s infused with all Natural Ingredients. They even have an option for kids with an SPF of 50.

    Eat a Balanced Diet

What goes in comes out through your skin! You really are what you eat. Eating the right foods can really give your skin the glow you’ve been searching for. You also must incorporate vitamins into your diet (I take two multi vitamins every single day) Try to limit your salt and sugar intake. Sugar adds to inflammation in the body. Anything you put in your body will eventually show up on your skin one way or another.

    Skincare Routine

No matter how tired your day has been from work, make cleansing a priority before you end your day. Oil, makeup, and other impurities that cause clogged pores and breakouts can be stripped off of your skin once you cleanse it. It must be done every morning when you wake up and every evening before bedtime. No excuses.

A good skincare does not have to be complex, It just needs to be consistent. You must include a good gentle cleanser and a nourishing moisturizer. You should be exfoliating no more than 1-2 times per week to get rid of dead skin cells on the surface of your skin. Don’t forget your SPF! Make this your ritual.

  • 6 Ways To Make Your Beauty Routine More Sustainable This Earth Month

6 Ways To Make Your Beauty Routine More Sustainable This Earth Month

If like us, you’re trying to lead a more environmentally friendly life, one area you can definitely improve is is your beauty routine. As a standard, the beauty industry is packed with single-use plastics, excess packaging, harsh chemicals and toxic ingredients, all of which are harmful to you and the planet.

However, there are a few easy ways that you can make a sustainable and environmentally friendly difference in your makeup and beauty regime. Here are a few of our favourite tips…

6 Ways To Make Your Beauty Routine More Sustainable This Earth Month

    sustainable beauty
    sustainable beauty

    1. Switch to Reusable Makeup Wipes

Face wipes may seem like a quick and easy way to remove your makeup, but they aren’t doing your skin – or the environment, any good. Not only do makeup wipes strip the skin of its natural oils and imbalance PH levels, but they’re also non-biodegradable and end up in landfills.

We recommend switching to reusable makeup wipes – in particular microfiber makeup wipes. They are well suited to the task for a number of different reasons:

    • They are soft. This almost goes without saying, but you don’t want to scrub just any old cloth over your sensitive facial skin!
    • They are thorough. Another benefit of those tiny microfibers is that they can reach into all the nooks and crannies in your skin for a more thorough cleansing.
    • They are “magnetic.” All those fibers act like magnets, grabbing onto makeup particles and locking them away rather than pushing them around on your skin.

    2. Re-use What You Can

An example of cleverly re-using makeup products would be a mascara wand. When your mascara has run out, or become too thick to use don’t throw away the mascara wand. A mascara wand is actually a really useful beauty tool, just make sure you gently wash off all the excess mascara with warm soapy water and turn it into an eyebrow brush! It is a great tool for shaping your eyebrows and it can be used to tame stray hairs by spraying with a little hairspray and combing through the stragglers.

    sustainable beauty

    3. Use a Metal Safety Razor

The biggest environmental issue with disposable razors is that they are not recyclable. According to the EPA, 2 billion disposable razors end up in land fills every year. A metal safety razor is recyclable, which can drastically reduce the negative environmental impact. And the razor itself can last a lifetime. Shaving with a safety razor also reduces skin irritation, shave bumps, and ingrown hairs that are common with cartridge or electric razors. The main reason is that with a safety razor you only have one blade against your skin at any time.

    4. Don’t leave the water running!

Your morning time beauty routine is always a good time to conserve water. One good way to do this is to stick to cold water. Waiting for the water to get hot just wastes it. If you want to take the lazy way out, skip cleansing. You most likely did a thorough skincare routine before bed so just splash some cool water on your face to get you up and moving. Follow through with toner and moisturizer and you are good to go. Don’t forget to shut off the water while you brush your teeth as well, or just brush them in the shower – two birds, one stone.

    sustainable beauty

    5. Use up what you already have

One of the first steps to making your beauty routine more eco-friendly is to use up anything you have before you buy a replacement. If there’s something you can’t make use of, think of ways to give it a second life. For example, if something isn’t your color or isn’t working for you, consider selling it on Poshmark, giving it away for free online or to a friend who loves to experiment with new-to-them products.

    6. Reduce consumption wherever possible

The single best thing anyone can do is to use what you have before you buy anything else, eco-friendly item or not. Another fruitful way to consume consciously is to opt for double-duty products, like a blush that you can also use on your lips, or a powder contour you can also use as eyeshadow. Be creative with your makeup, you might be surprised at the results!

We recommend trying out our powder contour palette for great contour and eyeshadow looks!

Women of color have a standout, multi-dimensional beauty that is all their own. However, it has not always been acknowledged in the mainstream. To celebrate Black History Month, we take a look at the magnificent milestones of these groundbreaking women who broadcasted ‘Black is Beautiful’ on their own terms and redefined the way beauty is perceived on the whole. Let these boss queens be your endless source of inspiration.

Black History Month: 6 Trailblazers Who Changed The Beauty Industry

    black history month

    1. Madam C.J. Walker

Widely recognized as the first self-made female millionaire, Madam C.J. Walker, née Sarah Breedlove, developed a line of innovative hair-care and skincare products for African-Americans that bolstered them with hygienic pride. Though she initially started out hawking the products of her financially-savvy mentor Annie Turnbo Malone (who many dispute as the true first Black self-made millionairess), the self-proclaimed hair culturalist and marketing magician broke away by developing her own product range and achieved ultimate success within a dozen years by expanding her product reach from door-to-door, by mail-order catalogue and “hair culture” colleges. In 2016, Sundial Brands, manufacturer of SheaMoisture, reintroduced her culturally-rich legacy to the millennial set by rolling it out to a multitude of Sephora doors.

    2. Vanessa Williams

The award-winning actress and recording artist loosened the color lines when she was the first African-American to be crowned Miss America in the pageant’s history. Several months later, the former beauty queen abdicated her title amidst a Penthouse nude photo scandal.

In 1988, she released her debut studio album The Right Stuff, whose title single saw moderate success before “Dreamin’” peaked at number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in the United States in 1989.

As an actress, Williams enjoyed success on both stage and screen, receiving an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture for her portrayal of Teri Joseph in the film Soul Food. Her best-known television roles are that of Wilhelmina Slater on Ugly Betty, for which she was nominated three times for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.

    3. Tracey Norman

The gorgeous Tracey Norman was the first Black trans model to achieve prominence in the modeling industry. Throughout the 1970s, Norman graced the pages of countless top publications, including Vogue Italia, Essence and Harper’s Baazar. Norman also landed a major commercial campaign as the face of Clairol’s popular “Born Beautiful” shade No. 152. The brand brought this barrier-breaking fashion icon back as the face of their “Nice ‘n Easy Color As Real As You Are” line in 2016.

    4. Grace Jones

Grace Jones has been many things during her years in the spotlight: dancehall queen, artistic muse, style icon, rebel, villainous Bond girl/henchwoman. She got her start on the runways in the 1970s, but soon Jones was on the cover of magazines, topping the U.S. dance charts with disco and R&B hits like “Pull Up to the Bumper” and “Slave to the Rhythm,” and befriending and influencing major players in the art and fashion worlds. And though she once made headlines for her onstage antics and drug-fueled partying, her enduring legacy has been her commitment to individuality, her fierce personality, and her defiance of social mores.

    5. Trina Parks

Actress Trina Parks made history as the first Black actress to star as a Bond girl, portraying the villainous Thumper. This had a significant impact on the future of Bond girl castings and Black women starring in Bond films, leading up to the upcoming No Time to Die, which features its first Black female 007.

    6. Lisa Price

Founded out of her Brooklyn kitchen, the beauty entrepreneur’s top-of-the-line multicultural brand, Carol’s Daughter, disrupted the haircare market by being the first to serve the needs of those within the natural hair community. The unparalleled success of her enterprise caught the attention of L’Oréal, which acquired the brand about a decade later, and inspired other independent beauty impressarios, such as Nancy Twine of Briogeo and Mahisha Dellinger of CURLS to follow in her footsteps and try to revolutionize the textured hair-care industry.

8 Beauty & Fashion Trends That Will Dominate 2020

2020 Beauty: 8 Trends That Will Dominate This Year & Beyond

Before we start discussing 2020 beauty, it’s important for us to take stock and look back over the last ten years. It’s fair to say that between fashion and beauty – we’ve seen it all. Take our hair for example, within the last decade we’ve had side bangs, poufs, lots and lots of layers, a-symmetrical bobs… the list goes on. So many crazy trends and fads have come and gone; contouring, the unicorn, multi-coloured everything phase and all the weird and wonderful things that have happened to our eyebrows over the last five years or so.

We’ve also seen some real progress with how society views beauty. Albeit, it isn’t perfect, but over the last decade, we’ve seen some major strides toward inclusive beauty, advertising actually showing real women and little imperfections and individuality being showcased and rewarded. We saw curls in all their glory. Skin that wasn’t airbrushed. And made our views as consumers perfectly clear through our thoughts about it on social media.

Who knows what we will see change over the next ten years. We are sure there will be many ‘hits’ and A LOT of ‘misses’ and no doubt we will look back in twenty years at photographs and say to ourselves “What was I thinking?!?” However, we are super excited to see where the beauty industry takes us and have put together a list of what we think will be trending over the next few months as we slide into the new roarings ’20s! 2020 beauty here we come…

    2020 BEAUTY: FEATHERED, FLUFFY BROWS

Say goodbye to the days of drawing (or in some cases tattooing) on fine, delicate brows. This year it’s time to embrace the lived-in, full brow look. “Brows are starting to look more like brows and less like cartoons…” FINALLY! We are embracing pens and gels and creating masterpieces that actually look like real brows!

Top Tip: You should prep your eyebrows with a growth serum each night before going to bed. The more you have to work with, the better your brows will look in the end!

    GEMSTONE EYES AND CRYSTAL NAILS

Inventive takes on eyeliner and rhinestones—lots of rhinestones—were all over the spring 2020 runways. Models at Pyer Moss had ruby red crystals all over their lids and around their eyes, while Pat McGrath created brightly colored eye looks with decals at Marc Jacobs. Off the catwalk expect to see more subtle variations hitting the streets. Ease your way into this trend with stick-on rhinestones on the inner corners of your eyes and then start exploring and experimenting from there.

Did you know that searches for “Swarovski crystal nails” are up 128% on Pinterest? It’s not hard to see why. Who wouldn’t want to look down and see their nails sparkling in the light? There’s the option of going to a salon to have them delicately place crystals in a line along your cuticles or tips, but you can also go the DIY route with a chunky glitter polish and purchasing your own crystals and glue online!

    BARRETTES AND HAIR CLIPS

If you didn’t get in the hair-clip game in 2019, good news: Now’s your chance. Pinterest reports searches for hair clips are up 930% going into the New Year. While teens are leaning toward wing and butterfly clips (yep, it’s officially happening AGAIN), those of us who actually remember wearing them the first time are gravitating towards more sophisticated options, like pearl clips, adorned bobby pins, and gold claw clips. 90s revival is in full swing beauties – you in or not?

    PASTEL EYESHADOW AND FLOATING EYELINER

Worn all over your lids or just as a flick of liner, pretty pastel shades are set to have their time to shine this spring. Models at Oscar de la Renta, Alice + Olivia, Ulla Johnson, and Jonathan Simkhai all hit the catwalk wearing dreamy mints, peaches, powder blues, lilacs, and lemons. Get ahead of the curve try out our Diamond Eyeshadow and Glitter Eyeshadow palettes. With many colours to choose from, you can combine the pastels with the sparkles this season.

To match your pastel shadows we are also expecting see lots of lots of floating liner…in bright colors. Say goodbye to traditional, black eyeliner (for a while at least). To create the perfect floating eyeliner look:

    Step One: Prime your lids

Step Two: Blend the second lightest shade in your eye shadow palette across your entire lid, extending just beyond your crease. Then, dust some of the lightest color onto the center of your lid to help make your eyes really pop.

Step Three: Close your eyes to determine where your real crease is. Then, using the eyeliner color of your choice (if you opted for a neutral floating crease, reach for brown; if you opted for a bold floating crease, use cobalt blue), draw an arc just beyond your natural crease.

    KNOTTED HEADBANDS AND SCRUNCHIES

If 2019 was the year of the padded headband, 2020 will be all about knotted ones. Not only were they all over the runways (like here at the Alice + Olivia spring show), but you also couldn’t walk two steps without seeing someone wearing Lele Sadoughi in the crowd. Our favorite places to shop for them? Shopbop and Urban Outfitters have a ton of fun styles, but don’t sleep on Etsy, where you can find interesting (and affordable) designs no one else will have.

Pinterest revealed a whopping 6309% surge in searches for the term “hair scrunchies” in its recent Pinterest 100 report, which means, despite not really paying scrunchies much attention since they were our favourite primary school accessory, they’re back in a big way for 2020.

As for how to style them, sling them round a low ponytail or bun, keeping the style loose and relaxed and – yep – it appears our long-forgotten scrunchie has grown-up with us.

  • Everyday Makeup: Do’s and Don’ts

    Everyday Makeup: Do’s and Don’ts

    Everyday Makeup: Do’s and Don’ts

Everyday makeup is all about sticking to the “less is more” motto. You want to know how to strike the perfect balance between looking put-together and not having spent hours in front of the mirror experimenting.

Our advice is to stick with products that match and enhance your natural features, rather than trying to change things. If your eyelids are naturally tinted light pink, for example, find a similar shade of eye shadow. If your lips are already berry toned, a raspberry lipstick is perfect.

To help you out, we’ve compiled a few dos and don’ts to help you determine which products to focus on for daily use, and which to save for glamorous nights on with the girls.

    Do Use A Light Foundation

Make sure when you are applying your foundation that it is no more than one shade darker than you natural skin tone. Save the darker shades for a night time/evening look. Day-to-day you want to appear as natural as possible. Wearing foundation, but appearing as if you aren’t wearing any at all.

Keep in mind your choice of concealer for everyday makeup as well. Stick to a concealer that’s just two shades lighter than your natural skin color so that you don’t draw further attention to, for example the tired area under your eyes.

Do Use Blush On Your Cheeks

The ever popular contouring trend has unfortunately led us down a path where we think we need to have sharply contrasted cheekbones ALL THE TIME. This is not the case. Contouring for everyday makeup can become tiresome and caked (depending on your activities throughout the day). It is hard to maintain throughout a busy work day schedule.

No matter the time of year, you should absolutely consider blush a daily beauty essential. Blush has the ability to make your skin look instantly radiant, healthy, and glowing. It’s also one of the least fussy products to apply, either with a stick or a fluffy powder brush.

Side Note: DON’T smile as you apply blush to the apples of cheeks. Doing this raises them, so when you stop smiling and cheeks return to their normal position, the blush color ends up being lower on the face and closer to the mouth. Not good.

We recommend trying out our Lavish blush palette, which you can purchase here. A 10 colour blush palette that lets can create a custom shade that’s perfect for you.

    Do Find A Nude Eyeshadow

Most of us are pressed for time while getting ready in the morning, so why bother applying a smokey-eye? This extreme look is great for formal occasions, but will make you look seriously overdone when worn to the office.

So instead, we recommend, when applying your everyday makeup, using soft, neutral eye shadow colors. Taupe, nude cream, or even a subtle coral will help give you a natural looking glow.

DO add a dab of a lighter and softly light-reflective shade to the center of your eyelid for a bright-eyed look. Use a small, flat eyeshadow brush, knock off the excess shadow, and lightly press/dab it in the middle of the eyelid.

Need a neutral eyeshadow palette? We’ve got you covered with our multi-use palette, containing 25 neutral shades to define, line, and highlight eyes and brows. Find it here.

    Don’t Wear Heavy, Voluminous Lashes

If you haven’t got lash extensions, you may feel you need to wear heavy voluminous lashes during the day. Don’t. It’s going overboard. Your eyes might feel naked, but wearing false lashes all the time might effect your natural eyelash growth and damage your waterline. We recommend saving falsies for night looks and just using a touch of mascara to darken and lengthen you natural lashes.

If you truly feel insecure without them for your everyday, we have a line of natural lashes that we give you length and an extra va va voom. You can find them here.

Do Wear Light Shades of Lipstick

For the perfect nude, everyday lipstick we recommend using a lipstick that is one shade lighter or darker than your natural lip color for the perfect nude lipstick.

DON’T use dark-hued lipsticks on thin lips. Well, dark lips should definitely be reserved for night time looks anyway, but if you must during the day, use a brighter shade rather than a dark one.

Top Tip: Apply concealer to the outer corners of your lips to give your lips a lift, and then apply concealer or highlighter around the edge of the lower lip to give yourself a pouty lip.

Find your perfect shade of nude, bright, dark or bold lipstick from our line of matte liquid lipsticks here.
