How To Love How You Look In Photos

In honour of upcoming National Selfie Day on June 21st, we wanted to share a few insider tips on how to love how you look in photos. We know that this is an area our customers (and folks of all sorts and kinds) struggle with on a near daily basis, and we want you to start LOVING your selfies. PS. Also see below for more details on how you can enter our Selfie Day Challenge for a chance to win a gift bag of Inception of Beauty products worth $150!

SOME OF OUR TOP TIPS:

1.) KNOW YOUR ANGLES

Practice by taking many different photos. You probably shouldn’t stare directly into the camera as most people don’t look their best straight-on. Turn to the side a little bit. Keep your chin down and the camera up. Try and hold the phone so that the bottom is level with your eyes or use a selfie stick for height.

2.) UNDERSTAND THAT YOU ARE YOUR OWN WORST CRITIC

Nobody notices the flaws you *think* you have. Always remember to smile. Natural expressions are the best, so are the freshest – so close your eyes right up until the moment you take the shot.

3.) USE ILLUMINATING PRODUCTS

Highligher is perhaps the easiest and simplest answer to looking amazing in photos, and when paired with the correct lighting and angles, you will look brilliantly illuminated. For the best highlighting techniques, focus on your cheekbones, center of now, upper lip (center), and above your brow bones. We are currently working on a new collection of liquid highlighters and will be announcing their release soon!

You should also contour for photos, as this little trick goes a long way. You can use our Creme Contour – or to get the best of both worlds, try our Contour and Highlight Palette. Contour around the sides of your forehead, cheekbones, underneath your jaw line to amplify your gorgeous facial features in photos. If you want, you can also try contouring the sides of the bridge of your nose and highlighting the center of your nose to make your bridge appear skinnier and more defined.

4.) USE GREAT LIGHTING AND PROPER LIGHT ANGLES

Instead of facing your computer screen, turn toward a window with natural light. If you can, taking the photograph outdoors is better. Out door lighting can actually make under-eye circles and shadows totally disappear. You also never want to shoot into the light, meaning if you are taking a selfie, you would be standing facing the light, not with the sun at your back.

5.) IMPLEMENT MODEL TRICKS

For full body, place one leg in front of the other popping that same hip, point the toe, and reach it as close to the camera as you can, to make your legs look longer. Always have your upper arm half an inch away from your body, otherwise it flattens against your side and looks unflattering in photos. Don’t stare directly into the camera for too long or your eyes might glaze over. Look away, or down at your toes, and then flash a bright glance at the camera.
